Something sinister is happening beneath the streets of New York City…
A killer is taking children – abducting them from subway platforms on their way to school.
Dubbed ‘the Creeper,’ he’s taken 8 kids in the last 10 months.
Parents across the city are locking their doors and driving their kids to school.
A strange darkness and distrust has become the water in the sewers…
The city spirals into a state of panic as news of a 9th victim emerges.
The same day, the Creeper is spotted entering a derelict housing project with his 10th victim. A media frenzy erupts.
Cornered by an NYPD SWAT team, the Creeper is finally brought down in a hail of bullets. Miraculously, his would-be victim leaves unscathed.
Critically wounded but still breathing, the Creeper is rushed into the ICU at nearby St. Vincent’s Hospital.
Outside the hospital a mob has formed, calling for the Creeper’s head.
As an unseasonal nor’easter bears down upon the city, the St. Vincent’s team works tirelessly to fulfill their Hippocratic oath and save the Creeper’s life.
But as the mob turns increasingly violent, the hospital staff realize they will go down in infamy for saving a monster. Together, they decide to pull the plug…
The monster is slain. The city can rest.
As the St. Vincent’s team drifts off to sleep, a blinding white light appears, causing the world around them to dissolve.
It only lasts for a moment, but unbeknownst to them, it has also dissolved everything that once made them human.
Each will feel like this moment was just a dream, but from that moment on, they will dream no more…
As our characters awaken, they learn the terrible news—the person they killed was not in fact the Creeper, but an innocent man.
Gradually, they discover something else—as punishment for their sin, they have all been condemned to Purgatory for 200 years.
Each will come to terms with this in their own way. Some will deny it. Others will embrace their fate.
Either way, they all must take a separate path toward acceptance and faith, and for one, it just might take a miracle to convince…
